English Studies
Welcome to English Studies
English Studies at FAU explores the literatures and cultures of Great Britain and Ireland (as well as other English-speaking countries) and covers the period from the Renaissance to the present day. The two chairs of English Studies both emphasise the historical and cultural contingency of literary and cultural production and employ theoretically informed, interdisciplinary perspectives. One chair concentrates more firmly on Literary Studies and the relations between literature and other discourses (including philosophy, the natural sciences and religion), the focus of the other is on Cultural Studies. This team considers cultural representations in a broader sense, including popular culture, cultural history and theory.
