Coronavirus Consequences
In the last couple of days, several measures have been adopted at FAU in response to the coronavirus threat. This post consolidates the most important aspects and specifies them further for the English and American Studies Department:
Home Office
All department employees have been asked to work from home. Because of this, office hours and any other work that would usually require direct contact with other people will be shifted to other media (e.g. e-mail, phone, or online conferences).
Please contact department employees via e-mail.
Departmental Library
The departmental library will be closed to the public until April 19—just like any other FAU library. Electronic resources, however, remain available. Please see here for further information.
Exams, written assignments, etc.
With the exception of State Examinations, all exams have been postponed indefinitely. That includes this department’s resits originally scheduled for the beginning of April. Discussions on how to best proceed are still ongoing. Once this has been decided, an update will be published here.
Since all FAU libraries are currently closed, the deadlines for all written assignments have been suspended. New deadlines will be set and communicated once the libraries have reopened.
Degree program deadlines (“Studienfristen”—GOP, BA, and MA deadlines), which cannot be met due to the current situation, will automatically be extended until the end of the summer term.
Please see here for further information on how the corona virus affects exams at FAU.
Summer Term Courses
At FAU all events have been cancelled. That includes all classes, which students would have to attend in person. Therefore, we are currently working on converting our course offerings to digital (remote) teaching formats. Our lecturers will let their students know as soon as possible, how their classes will be taught in the summer term.
In the meantime, registration for summer term courses is carried out on Mein Campus as usual. Some students might be restricted from signing up for their desired courses, because they have not (yet) met the necessary prerequisites due to exams cancellations. For this summer term, we will temporarily waive these restrictions on the condition that students make up leeway on the prerequisites. Any credits earned in these classes will explicitly only be valid, once students pass the modules usually required to register for them. If students want to be admitted for a class on these conditions, they must send an an e-mail to angam-info@fau.de stating the course(s) they wish to take, their student id number, and the error message they received when they tried to sign up for the class(es) on Mein Campus.
